Façade renovation and roof works under weather protection in the heart of the city
At the Humalistonkatu 4 site, located in the heart of Helsinki, an extensive façade renovation and roof replacement of a commercial building were carried out in demanding urban conditions. The client was Oy Rakennuspartio.
At the site, we delivered scaffolding and weather protection solutions that enabled both façade repair works and the renewal of the roof structures to be carried out safely and under weather protection throughout the entire project.
The façade works included washing, plastering and painting, while at the same time the old roof was dismantled and a new sheet metal roof was installed under the weather protection.
Demanding conditions in the heart of Helsinki city centre
The site was located in an extremely dense urban environment, which brought significant logistical and technical challenges to the project. The plot was tight, and the work took place directly in the middle of a busy urban setting.
The main challenges were related to:
- Transport arrangements and confined working areas
- Wind loads on the weather protection and the stability of the structure
- The wide scaffolding structure and its implementation within the surrounding urban environment
- Logistical planning, as there was no storage space available on site
All equipment had to be delivered and transported to the site precisely at the right time during both the installation and dismantling phases.
A customised scaffolding and weather protection solution
A scaffolding and cantilever structure was implemented for the site, with weather protection built on top to cover the entire working area.
As a special solution, part of the scaffolding was also installed on the roofs of neighbouring buildings. The loads were designed and approved in advance by the construction site.
The weather protection solution made it possible to carry out both façade and roof works in controlled and dry conditions.

From the client’s perspective, the outcome of the tendering process and smooth cooperation played a decisive role.
Oy Rakennuspartio selected the solution based on the tendering process, and the cooperation was described at a practical level as clear and in line with the plan.

Schedule and outcome
The scaffolding and weather protection works were carried out during the period 01/2024–10/2024, over an implementation period of approximately six months.
The work was completed as planned with regard to the scaffolding and weather protection solutions, and the overall solution supported the progress of the site without significant disruptions.
